While I’m more than happy to promote my business, it’s a little harder to talk about myself! However, as the owner of D Residential Group and considering my core value is to provide a personalised experience for my clients, I thought you might like to know more about me and what I’m all about. My blog writer Lisa O’Neill and I got together, and she asked me all the questions… hope you enjoy getting to know more about me!
Lisa: What first led you to the real estate industry and then to identify property management as your ideal career path?
Diana: It all started way back when I was in year 11! I knew from a young age exactly what I wanted to do. I tried some work experience at two different property agencies and really enjoyed it. I could see myself working in this industry and I must admit, I did have my dad slightly nudge me in this direction which was great!
Property management interest me straight away, partly because there were never two days the same. I enjoyed leasing early on which led me to property management. I had an awesome trainer and learnt the ropes of property management on my very first job, which set me up for good practices and procedures which I still use to this day – obviously time has evolved since then but that set my foundations.
Lisa: So, you’ve been in your industry for how many years?
Diana: It all started back in 2004. I was at a home open looking to buy a house and I was offered a job – I was 18.
Lisa: That’s a long time! What do you love most about your job?
Diana: Not always stuck behind a desk! I enjoy the variety of being out and about but also love the admin side of things – especially the trust accounting, that’s my favourite part.
Lisa: What led you to starting your own business?
Diana: It was a dream of mine right from the very beginning. Building my experience was important to me as I knew I had to have this to move forward with this dream of mine. Having worked at a few different agencies in my time, from the big chain agencies right down to family-owned businesses, I really learnt the ropes of what works and what doesn’t.
It’s rare to have the business owner be 100% involved in property management to provide that personal experience and have customers really satisfied with the service. My goal is not to be the biggest agency in Perth, but to provide the best possible service and personal experience. I want to be the best we can be in this industry. That is where I saw the gap.
An example of this is recently I had some owners come on board with us who were tired of not receiving the service they had hoped for. They were hungry for a personalised service (one of the first things they said to me) and unfortunately were not getting this, they felt like just a number. I can’t wait to ensure they have an enjoyable experience with us to exceed their expectations.
Plus I love being my own manager! That’s the cream of the cake!
Lisa: How different has it been from what you dreamt it would be to the reality of running your business?
Diana: I always knew there was a lot of groundwork and work behind the scenes that had to be done in order to have great foundations for my business. I’m familiar with the systems thanks to the experience of observing my husband’s business, which really helped me set up mine. It’s not easy, but it’s certainly rewarding and I wouldn’t change a single thing. I look back over this last year and I can’t believe how much has already been accomplished and I’m so excited for the future and organically growing my business, bit by bit.
Lisa: What do you love doing outside of D Residential, what makes you overflow with excitement when you’re not working?!
Diana: My boys take up a lot of my time ? but I also love walking my fur baby Freddy, keeping fit at Bodies by Ryan and I love a little bit of selfcare – anything from a massage or facial to popcorn and Netflix!
Now that I’ve shared a little more about myself, I would love to know more about you and your property owning dreams. Contact me on 0402 888 550 and we can discuss the best options for successful property management.
